EVOLVE Wellness Fun Day
5/24/2022
The FMC Community Foundation, a proud affiliate of Cumberland Family Medical Center, Inc., proudly sponsored the EVOLVE Club in Casey and Cumberland County High Schools for the 2021-2022 school year. EVOLVE is a school-based club which focuses on promoting the health and wellbeing of students and staff by offering education on nutrition, exercise, mental health, oral health, and body image through monthly meetings during the school year. At each meeting, participants were given a healthy snack to encourage them to try different foods and show healthy foods can taste good. The curriculum is based on the weight management program which Dr. Lynnette Brooks, MD, pediatrician at Glasgow Pediatric Healthcare/Healthy Kids Clinic, designed and utilizes in her practice. Paige Armstrong, RD, LD, shares healthy snack recipes, RDH. This club is free of charge for participants.
On May 13, 2022, the club hosted its first end of year Fun Day for participants! The event was held at the Lindsey Wilson College Holloway Health and Wellness Center in Columbia, KY. Students participated in physical activities including swimming, cardio, weightlifting, basketball, among others. Upon arrival, Paige Armstrong, RD, LD, made fresh fruit smoothies for participants and a healthy lunch was provided.
Each participant received an EVOLVE t-shirt and water bottle. Students Tabitha Overstreet and Harley Campbell won the grand prize drawing for Fitbits.
Students voiced from participation in the club they have learned ways to eat healthy, ways to exercise, and how to manage their mental health.
